Highlights of XChange v5.5

20.12.2023 – The latest version of XChange is here and it brings a range of new features to optimise onboard network management and improve the user experience.

Extension of XChange SD-WAN Lite, enabling:

• Management of up to eight devices, allowing for better bandwidth, resilience, and cost-efficiency
• Support of new satcom technologies for higher speed and lower latency connections
• Use of dashboard without touching the modems

Interactive notifications: XChange informs staff about important events that need an action, such as security patch installation. It also asks them to schedule the reboot of the platform at a convenient time.

New onboard documentation service: XChange provides the latest end user documentation, such as how-to manuals, via its onboard user dashboard. The documents are automatically updated by Marlink and accessible via the onboard ‘Intranet’. Captains have exclusive access to relevant documents in a separate folder.

Enhanced back-up & restore: XChange offers more restore options and explanations for different types of restoration. It also checks the back-up files for compatibility and consistency before uploading them on other platforms.

New supporting tools for troubleshooting: XChange has more debugging and additional troubleshooting options so issues are resolved quicker and more effectively.

Improved Cyber Security: XChange cyber security features are updated regularly to reflect our regular audits for enhanced cyber security and resilience.

XChange is Type Approved by Bureau Veritas: XChange meets the requirements of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) for cyber resilience of onboard systems and equipment. It also complies with the rule that covers the ship as a whole for cyber resilience.

How to update

XChange boxes on firmware v5.4 can simply be updated over-the-air, via the ‘Update Push’ function in Portal360.

If you are running an older version than v5.0, this hardware should be swapped as soon as possible, as the firmware is out of date and no longer supported. Please contact your Key Account Manager to discuss the details of how to swap your hardware.
